3박 4일 홍콩 여행기

   올해 추석은 화,수,목으로 역사에 남을 만한 황금 휴일을 만들어 주었다. 여행사에서도 다양한 국내외 여행 상품을 쏟아내며 많은 사람들에게 연휴를 즐기도록 도와주었다. 이는 추석 당일전에 돌아오는 조건으로 형과 함께 3박 4일의 홍콩여행을 결심한 이유이기도 하다.

   학교 일로 북미와 유럽에 다녀온 적은 있어도 관광을 목적으로 해외 여행을 해본 경험은 없어 사뭇 흥분되었다. 거기에 단 한번도 해외를 나가본 적이 없는 형과 함께라니 이번 여행이 특별하다면 특별했다.

   3박 4일 중 첫날과 둘째날은 여행사 상품으로 홍콩의 유명 명소들을 거점별로 미니버스로 빠르게 돌아보는 프로그램이 짜여져 있었고, 셋째날과 네째날은 자유투어였다. 출국 전에 아이폰에 홍콩 여행 관련 어플을 잔뜩 받아두었다가 한 곳씩 거점 여행을 시작했다. 여행 중간에 중국 심천을 들려 중국의 3대 쇼 중 하나라는 민속쇼를 관람했다. 그리고 KTB 자산운용 홍콩 법인장으로 계신 대학 선배님을 만나 글로벌 무대에서 치열한 경쟁에 대해 들어볼 수 있었다. 또한 홍콩과학기술대에 재학 중인 군대 동기를 만나 도서관을 가득 채운 학생들의 열정과 높은 학구열을 느낄 수 있었다.

   여행기는 글 보다는 영상으로 대신한다.

“세계와 함께 숨을 쉬자” SNS
 
  JihoonRoh.com을 운영하는 블로거이며 SNS와 전자책을 활용한 도서관 선진화에 관한 논문으로 국립중앙도서관에서 주최한 대학생 논문 공모전에서 우수상을 수상한 산업경영공학과 노지훈 학우에게 SNS에 대한 생각을 들어보았다.

- 지금 사용하고 있는 SNS에 대해 소개해주세요.
  트위터를 시작한 지 1년이 조금 넘었는데 현재까지 트윗 수만 보면 1,826 트윗으로 하루 평균 약 5개 정도의 트윗을 하고 있습니다. 항상 인터넷을 사용하는 업무 환경으로 인해 SNS를 통한 정보 획득 및 공유를 많이 하고 있습니다.
  트위터, 페이스북, 딜리셔스를 포함하여 기존의 검색 서비스에 소셜 네트워크 기능이 추가된 유튜브와 슬라이드쉐어도 자주 사용합니다. 예전에는 앞서 언급한 SNS들을 정보 검색의 도구로만 사용하다가 지난해부터 정보 생산 및 공유의 도구로도 활용하고 있습니다.

- SNS를 사용하시면서 느낀 SNS의 강점에 대해 설명해주세요.
  2008년에 개발된 Prezi라는 프레젠테이션 도구가 있습니다. Prezi의 역동적인 기능에 비해 한글 지원이 되지 않는 점이 아쉬워 페이스북 페이지 “Prezi로 발표하는 한국인의 모임”을 개설했습니다. 그리고 페이스북과 트위터를 통해 Prezi 사용방법 및 활용방안에 대한 정보를 공유하고 오픈세미나를 개최하면서 이 모임은 Prezi 창업자 Adam을 포함한 500명 이상의 모임으로 성장하게 되었습니다. 모임의 가장 큰 성과로 지난달 Prezi 창업자와의 연락을 통해 Prezi의 한글 폰트 개발이 진행되기 시작하였고 국내에서 Prezi가 빠르게 캐즘을 넘게 되었습니다. 이는 SNS의 놀라운 파급효과가 없었다면 불가능했다고 생각합니다.

- SNS를 사용하면서  재미 있었던 에피소드가 있나요?
  트위터를 통한 재밌는 에피소드로는 평소 친해질 기회가 적은 분들과 인연을 맺고 관계를 유지해 나가고 있다는 것입니다. 윤홍근 BBQ 제너시스 회장 (@GenesisYoon), 『트위터 140자의 매력』의 저자 이성규 매일경제 연구원 (@dangun76), 그리고 SBS 이혜승 아나운서 (@standbyme_)를 모두 강연회 또는 행사를 통해 처음 만나 트위터를 통해 계속 연락을 주고받고 있습니다. 또 우리대학 산업경영공학과 이재욱 지도교수님 (@DrJaewookLee)과도 이메일이 아닌 트위터를 통해 편리하고 신속하게 안부를 여쭙고 있습니다.

- 마지막으로 포스테키안에게 한마디 부탁드립니다.
  김종래씨의 『CEO 칭기스칸』에 보면 ‘고인 물은 썩고, 흐르는 물은 쌓이지 않는다’는 명언이 나옵니다. 앞으로의 사회는 한 곳에 머무는 정착민의 습성보다 전세계를 누비는 유목민의 습성이 빛을 발하는 시대가 도래할 것입니다. 하지만 아무런 기록을 남기지 않고 돌아다니기만 한다면 후대에 사회 문화적 유산을 남길 수 없습니다. 글로벌 아웃라이어를 지향하는 포스테키안들이 SNS를 통해 좁은 대한민국을 넘어 전세계 청년들과 함께 숨을 쉬며 위대한 유산을 만들어주길 기대합니다.

I got an interview from Prezi. Here is the first draft. It was posted on Prezi Blog 9 Oct, Hangul Day.

- Please introduce yourself shortly. What do you do, where do you live?

   Hi, I’m Jihoon Roh from South Korea. I’m a huge fan of Prezi, and now running the Korean Prezi community, ‘Prezi로 발표하는 한국인의 모임’ on Facebook. (Click here) I’ve conducted several open seminars for Korean Prezi user since this June.

I’m studying about Industrial and Management Engineering at POSTECH. But these days I’m taking this semester off from school and working for Radio Pulse Inc. as Softbank Ventures Korea internship program.

- How did you got to know Prezi? 

   After reading the book What Would Google Do, I subscribed Jeff Jarvis’ blog (Click here), the author of the book. Someday he posted his new journalism project with Prezi. It was my first time to know Prezi. It was bang!

- What do you use Prezi for?

   I think Prezi is not a presentation tool, it’s a creativity maker. From the normal writing to the image and video, the way of expression is getting more visualized. Also, info-graphic is more important issue at both work and school.

Here is my point. Idea is contagious. However, Idea with Prezi can change the world. That’s what I use for Prezi.

- From a Prezi user you have soon turned to be a local community leader. What motivated you in this and how did you start? (You have created a very popular Facebook page. Can you tell more about how it started/works)?

   I’m lucky to know Prezi quite early. Unfortunately, however, Korean people usually don’t try to use foreign web service because of language barrier. For example, after Korean people broadly use smart phones this year, the number of twitter and facebook user rockets up.

I can’t wait for watching that the other Korean also does happy zooming. That’s reason why I made a facebook page to introduce and share about Prezi, and conducted the pezKor open seminar.

According to this analytics graph from the Facebook page, the interesting has shot up after every open seminar. And it’s getting more.

- Why have you decided to contact Prezi personally?

   I’ve checked out the QnA ‘Any plan for Korean (Hangul)?’ on Prezi community (Click here). Sometimes it goes forward. Finally we got the small result. That’s the beta testing of Korean prezi style on July. After that, however, there is no more progress. I thought we need somebody who takes a responsibility of that project to make it work out. So I decided to contact Prezi through the Facebook.

- We have soon started to discuss how we could create the Korean prezi style. You also involved a design team, we both put our best into the cooperation. How was our cooperation from your viewpoint?

   I really like to cooperate with Prezi. I and design team discussed about the fonts and send email to Prezi on the morning, usually I got answer from Prezi on the evening. The excellent time difference between the west and the east help us.

Here is a good precedent. When I conducted the 3^rd open seminar I requested a greeting video from Adam, the co-founder of Prezi. The 3^rd open seminar was quite different event from the regular one in the both aspects, the number of attending and the quality of speaking. More, Adam’s greeting video imbues audiences with new zeal. - Finally about the Korean prezi community: how do people use Prezi in Korea? Is it conferences, business, education or other most common use case? How many users you have personal contact with? 

   In Korea, there are so many application of Prezi from educational materials to business proposals. One of my seminar attendee uses Prezi as mental healing tool for kids. She is a head of the occupational therapy center. And, many professional coaches asked me how they can use Prezi for their lectures. Even, one of speakers on the 3^rd open seminar did a great singing and dancing performance with Prezi.

I meet up all of them both at online, the facebook page and twitter and at offline, the pezKor open seminar. These meetings lead my life with a plentiful source of inspiration.

- How will the Korean Prezi style help local users?

   Many Korean people have difficulty with expressing themselves in good English. That’s why they hesitate to pour their stunning idea into Prezi. Thanks to the Korean Prezi style, teenaged students are also able to develop their creativity by Prezi. More, lot countries of the Southeast Asia educate Korean as their second language at schools. I’m sure the Korean Prezi style will help global users too.

   I’ve first conducted the open seminar with a lecture about very basic things like what Prezi is and how to use it. At that time Korean people rarely knew about Prezi. However after having the pezKor 3^rd open seminar, it’s getting changed. More valunteer speakers can particpate the pezKor open seminar to discuss their opinions, ideas, and tips about Prezi. Besides, I collect this informatic discussion on the Facebook page and share this with some more including Korean people living in foreign country. All of contents from the pezKor open seminar are provided for free.

Prezi Meeting 기능 리뷰

   오늘 Marshable.com 을 통해 Prezi의 새로운 기능인 Prezi Meeting 에 대한 소개되었다.

    Prezi는 기존에도 "Invite editors" 기능을 통해 온라인 협업을 지원했다.

   하지만, 이번에 출시된 Prezi Meeting 은 더욱 시각적으로 협업하는 모습을 보여준다.

   Prezi 작업창에 들어가면 오른편 상단에 [이미지 1]과 같이Meeting 메뉴가 생성 되었다. Meeting을 클릭하면 "Start online presentation"과 "Invite to Edint" 하위 메뉴가 있다. 각 메뉴를 클릭하면 아래와 같은 링크 공유 창이 생성된다.

생성된 링크는 최대 10명까지 공유가 가능하며, Prezi 작업창을 닫은 후 10분 안에 링크가 자동으로 삭제되어 보안을 유지할 수 있다.

   [이미지 3]은 Prezi Meeting 기능 테스트를 위해 진석진님과 (@jinseokjin 빨간색 ) 최경은님을 (@kyeongeun 초록색) 초대한 모습이다. 이처럼 Prezi 공동 작업 환경에서는 이마에 이름이 표시된 색깔별 아이콘으로 공동 작업자를 구별할 수 있다.

   공동 작업자 중 한명을 선택하면 [이미지 3]과 같이 "Take a look" 질문이 생성 된다. 본 이미지에서는 진석진님을 선택하여 "Take a look"을 클릭하면 [이미지 4]와 같이 진석진님의 작업 관점에서 Prezi 작업 창을 볼 수 있다.

   Prezi 공동 작업이 끝나면 "Take a look" 기능을 이용해 다른 사람이 진행하는 Path 움직임에 따라 발표를 들을 수 있다. 즉, 원격 발표 및 강의가 가능하다.

   현 상태에서 다시 자신의 작업창으로 돌아오고 싶을 때는 Prezi 작업창 중 아무곳을 클릭하면 된다.

   Prezi의 협업 기능을 활용해 원격 브래인스토밍과 같은 아이디어 회의가 가능 할 듯하다. 그리고 다른 사람이 생성한 자료를 바로 빼앗아 가거나 삭제할 수 있었다. 이러한 기능을 활용한다면 Prezi 공동 작업창에서 땅따먹기나 오목과 같은 게임도 즐길 수 있을 것 같다.
   다만, 한가지 아쉬운 점은 원격 발표를 진행할때 voice 전달이 지원되지 않는다는 점이다. 그래서 Skype를 함께 띄어놓고 사용했다.

   끊이없이 개선되는 Prezi를 통해 Prezi의 사용방법을 익히는 것을 넘어 얼마나 창의적으로 활용하느냐의 문제로 발전하고 있음을 느낀다. (아래는 Prezi Meeting을 소개하는 Youtube)
